Introduction: 
Employers are required to: The First Aid Responder (FAR) course is designed to prepare individuals to provide effective first aid in the workplace, community, or home. As mandated under Irish legislation, the course ensures compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (S.I. No. 299 of 2007) and the guidance set out by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA). FAR training equips participants with the skills and confidence to respond promptly to medical emergencies, potentially saving lives. 
 
Employers are required to: 
Ensure the presence of adequately trained First Aid Responders on-site, as outlined in Part 7, Chapter 2, Regulation 165 of the 2007 General Application Regulations. 
Assess workplace risks and provide the necessary first aid equipment, facilities, and training. 
Maintain a record of certified First Aid Responders and update training periodically, as certifications are valid for two years.

Course Objectives: 
By the end of the course, participants will: 
Understand the principles and priorities of first aid response. 
Develop the skills to assess and manage emergency situations. 
Learn techniques to provide life-saving interventions, such as CPR and AED use. 
Gain confidence in managing a range of injuries and medical emergencies until professional help arrives. 
Theoretical component: 
 
Overview of Ireland’s health and safety legislation concerning first aid. 
Responsibilities and role of a community first responder. 
Assessing emergency situations: prioritizing safety for responders and victims. 
Recognizing life-threatening conditions, including cardiac arrest, stroke, and severe bleeding. 
Understanding the chain of survival and the importance of rapid intervention. 
Practical component: 
 
Hands-on CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training for adults, children, and infants. 
Proper use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). 
Techniques for managing choking, severe bleeding, burns, and fractures. 
Simulated scenarios to practice first aid in real-life emergency situations. 
Confidence-building exercises to ensure participants are prepared to respond effectively.
